6 DAILY HABIT FOR SUCCESS
As humans we are creatures of habit. We love nothing more than finding a rhythm or routine that we like, which we then happily stick to without giving it a second thought, because - well, why would we when we’re comfortable and it works for us?
The problem with this thinking is that if we're always doing the same things day in and day out, we’re not learning or growing, and worse - we're not stretching ourselves and we end up placing a limit on reaching our highest potential.
The only way we can ever know what we’re truly capable of is if we create a daily habit of moving past our fears, upleveling our game and truly step in to the person we were destined to become
The trick is to recognize the habit and take action to rectify it by establishing good habits to replace them.
It takes conscious effort to be disciplined, and when we fill our day with positive habits we lay the foundation for our path to success.
I call these my Daily Habits for Success and have them printed out on my vision board as a constant reminder
1. Establish a morning routine and schedule your time.
Being in a productive routine is essential - and by this I mean one that works for you. No two people’s will be the same - but creating good habits around how you set up your day and divide your day into productive time vs. play vs. relaxation vs. exercise will ensure that you are scheduling your most important work to be done.
Scheduling our time is essential. Stephen Covey talks about this in his book, the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People - we need to schedule our priorities to ensure they get done.
This begins with defining exactly what your priorities are - for the year, for the month, this week and for today. What absolutely needs your attention this week? What do you need to finish by the end of this month?
Then work out your weekly schedule based on your priorities and schedule your time accordingly.
For example, if you're working full time an setting up your business on the side; it is very easy to come home from work and sit in front of the television or go out with your friends.
Success begins with establishing your priorities; then setting the goals you wish to achieve; and ultimately creating a habit of scheduling time for you to work on your goals at a regular time each day or week.
This habit will see you reaching your goals a lot faster than if you were trying haphazardly to ‘find time’ to work on your goals - we both know this won’t happen!
2. Stay focused: keep your daily to-do list small.
Limit your goals to only 3 per day. This not only gives you laser sharp focus for each day and intentionally stop you from feeling overwhelmed. When our to-do lists are long and seemingly never-ending we are less inclined to want to look at them.
Keeping them short and succinct will mean we can achieve what we set out to each day - and we all know that feeling of accomplishment by being able to cross things off that list!
3. Get out of your comfort zone and do something that scares you each day.
It’s true - everything that you want is on the other side of fear. Fear is the one thing holding you back from your dreams.
But here’s the truth: every time you do something new and unfamiliar, you’re stretching yourself and building confidence at the same time. Get good at feeling uncomfortable!
Commit to doing one thing each day that will lead you to where you want to be.
The more you practice getting outside your zone of comfort, the quicker you will fuel your own personal growth and see your wildest dreams begin to manifest.
4. Move your body and fuel it with healthy food.
Fuel your body with nourishing foods that are good for you! If you don’t have time to make full meals, then throw together a simple salad
When you are kind to your body and fuel it with the right foods it will allow you to do your best work, remain focused during the day and have the stamina to put in the hours you need to while building your biz.
Moving your body will give you energy and help you feel more focused in your work - helping to make you way more productive! Set aside time each day (can even be 10-15 minutes!) so you can move your body.
You don’t need to do a full on workout and spend an hour sweating it out in the gym. Some of my favorite are the workouts Emily Sky shares on Instagram, but I also love doing yoga with Adrienne. Twice a week I head to an early morning yoga class which is such an energizing way to start the day.
Whatever you decide, do something you enjoy and that works for you.
Getting outside and going for a walk is a wonderful way to end the day!
5. Create white space and reflect on the positive.
When we’re knee-deep chasing a dream that feels so far off in the distance, it’s easy to lose perspective, motivation and start feeling down-right sorry for ourselves.
Taking 5 minutes at the end of each day to write out what we’re grateful is an instant mood booster and gives us time to reflect and appreciate how awesome life really is in the present moment.
I also love ending the day with a meditation and do this each night before I go to bed - this practice has done wonders for my sleep!
6. Go to bed early and wake up at the same time every day.
Sleep is underrated, but completely mandatory so please don’t skimp on it if you want to increase your chances of being successful!
Our bodies need 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night to rest and restore properly.
Oh and did I mention that lack of sleep is a creativity killer? Not worth skimping on if you want to keep those creative juices flowing!
Don’t fall into the trap of staying up late mindlessly scrolling and watching Netflix - switch off the TV, close your laptop and curl up in bed an hour earlier with a good book. Going to bed early can feel incredibly luxurious if you create a nightly ritual that will help relax you and unwind from the day.
Getting into the habit of going to bed early will mean you can get up earlier, giving you more time to focus on your priorities and time to start your day with a nourishing morning routine that will leave you feeling energized and inspired!
