10 Tips for better time management
Do you find time management to be a hard task? It can be difficult to maintain balance in all the tasks that you have. It’s quite normal to struggle with time management
No matter if you are good at time management or not, it should always be noted that time does not come back around. Which is why we must utilize our time wisely.
Here are some tips to help you better manage your time and boost productivity so you can create an organizational life. Some of these time management tips can be used in your daily routine schedule.
1)Start your day with a clear focus
What’s significant about today? Wake up with this in mind so that you can start thinking about what needs to be done for the day.
To help keep your mind in focus for today’s tasks, try preparing your mind the night before by writing it down or setting a reminder on your smartphone.
Alarms in your phone work just as well. The purpose is for you to have a set focus in the morning when you start your day so that you can stay on track.
2)Make a schedule/task list—and stick to it!
Having a schedule has its benefits. If followed through, you can really get important things done in the time frame you’ve designated.
This goes along with task lists. I love task lists because you can physically see things that are completed, being checked off of the list.
This makes me feel productive and motivates me to want to check off more of my list.
If you don’t finish everything in one day, don’t panic. Save it for the next day, just don’t keep putting the task off. It may never get done.
3)Prioritize Wisely
When looking at your schedule and tasks to be done, keep in mind whatever is urgent and whatever isn’t so urgent.
The tasks that are important and urgent should be done first. You can do these at the beginning of your day or when you start working on tasks.
The tasks that are important but not urgent should be done next, and so on and so forth. The point is to work on the tasks that are the most important first.
4)Minimize interruptions
It’s important to recognize what distracts you. There are many things that can interrupt you from getting important things done. In particular, your phone is a huge interruption.
Our phones can be very helpful and a resource when we need to surf the web to help find an answer. Our phones can also become a distraction.
Let’s say you’re looking online, using your phone, and your friend texts you with a funny meme. What do you think happens next?–You begin texting them back.
Who knows how long this conversation will go on. This was just an example of how easily we can become interrupted or distracted. Understand what triggers your interruptions and then stop them.
5)Stop multitasking
Many people tend to think they’re good at multitasking. They can have a ton of things that they’re working on at once, which seems like they’re getting a lot done in one time, but in reality, they’re actually not.
Somewhere in this super multitasking challenge, the quality of the things being done at once is not that good.
Many will sometimes have to go back to a task to fix mistakes which can make the process pointless.
In order to utilize your time wisely, you won’t have to go back to fix mistakes because you will do it right the first time.
If you limit the number of tasks that you do at all at once, you could allow yourself a capacity for a more concentrated focus with less time having to fix things.
6)Don’t procrastinate
Everyone has procrastinated sometime in their lives before. Procrastination is how most of us function. Some people believe they work the best under pressure, getting things done right before the deadline or due date.
DON’T TRY IT.
You don’t want to put any tasks off for days at a time, so if you have a task on your to-do list that you are able to do today, just go ahead and do it today.
If you want to make the most of your time, go ahead and take care of things that can be done when you have time.
Remember, you want better time management, so don’t push it with procrastination.
7)Use a calendar
It may seem like an old-time thing, but having a calendar has benefits that you may not realize. You can easily manage your tasks and activities by using a calendar.
The good thing is, many mailing services such as Google, Outlook, or Yahoo have calendars that are automatically available to you.
With most of these services, you can sync your calendar to your mobile phone. This way you can have your important dates right in your hand.
There are calendars in planners that you can use as well to help stay on track with your tasks. Calendars are great time management tools.
Go ahead and grab you one! For maximum results, try The LifePlanner from Erin Condren. Her planners are popular for helping people remain productive and master time management.
8)Learn to say “No”
If a person comes in when you’re busy with a task, give them a firm no. Don’t feel bad about it, it is okay to say no sometimes.
You can tell them that you are doing something important and then divert the activity to a later time when you’re not busy.
It’s not a bad thing to say no. If you really want to manage your time, learn to say no. You don’t have to say “no” all. the time. Just make sure you don’t say “yes” all the time.
This is my favorite of all time management tips because it’s easy to lose track of what’s important for you when you’re focused on doing things for others.
9)Keep a clock in front of you
A major key to time management is having a clock in front of you. It’s easy to lose track of time. A lot of the time, we are behind on time because we are too busy to take a second to see what time it is.
If it is already in visible sight, you can easily take a second to look so that you can stay on track.
10)Know your deadlines
If you have the time, write out your important tasks with the due date beside them. Use your calendar or organizer to mark your deadlines so that you can see and know when you need to finish a task.
